Registered nurses provide and coordinate care in a variety of settings on the Nursa platform including hospitals, long-term care (LTC) centers, assisted living facilities (ALFs), skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), outpatient centers, home health services, dialysis clinics, and other types of healthcare facilities.
RN responsibilities:
Although work duties can vary depending on the setting and specialty, your responsibilities may include the following.
- Collect information and assess a patient's condition by taking vital signs and medical history, performing physical examinations and observations, and analyzing laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Monitor, record, and report patient responses and any changes in condition using Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and coordinate patient care plans
- Supervise licensed practical/vocational nurses, nurse assistants, and other support staff as needed
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and other treatments as prescribed
- Perform clinical procedures including wound care, specimen collection, and emergency response protocols
- Prepare shift handoff reports using SBAR or facility-specific tools to ensure continuity of care
- Advocate for the best interests of the patient and serve as a communicator between the patient and the healthcare team
- Educate patients and family members about health promotion, disease prevention, treatment procedures, and self-care management, and offer emotional support
- Safeguard protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA regulations and maintain strict infection control standards using proper PPE
- Document and report safety events and ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility-mandated procedures
RN qualifications:
RNs maintain professional excellence by meeting the following qualifications and standards:
- Current and valid RN license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Recent nursing experience preferred; 2–3 years preferred for high-acuity settings such as ICU, ER, or Med-Surg
- Knowledge of nursing procedures and protocols
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to provide compassionate and reliable care while adapting quickly to different facility environments
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts with prolonged standing and safe patient handling

About Required RN License:
To become a registered nurse (RN), an individual needs to complete an accredited nursing program for RNs. After that, they must complete a licensure application and approval process that meets their respective state’s licensing requirements and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Furthermore, RNs must renew licensure periodically, following their state’s requirements.
