Bump Up Your Bank Account with PRN LPN Jobs in Las Vegas

Leave no stone unturned. Cliche statement that makes you think of a police detective? Yes. Also, it’s valid and applicable to you when we’re talking about trying to increase your earning potential. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) perform an essential role in the healthcare delivery system of many facilities in Las Vegas. While the average LPN salary is solid earnings, life has a way of making us wish we could earn more.

You can earn more when you take control of your valuable work time and your placement. You can do both things when you pick up per diem shifts, and here, we’ll tell you how to do it. We’ll also cover how to become an LPN, how much LPNs earn on average, how working per diem shifts benefits you, and how to find per diem LPN jobs in Las Vegas.

How to Become a Las Vegas LPN

If you make the comparison of an LPN vs a registered nurse (RN), you’ll usually find that LPN responsibilities involve more direct patient care, whereas RNs have a broader scope of practice. An LPN’s training and education are typically 12 to 18 months long; alternatively, an RN’s training and education results in either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing, which are longer and more in-depth programs.

Becoming an LPN means you are a licensed nurse who provides direct patient care, usually under an RN’s supervision. You’ll likely participate in patient care planning with clinicians from other specialties such as physical and occupational therapists, you may coordinate patient care with certified nursing assistants (CNAs), and provide patient information to other nurses and physicians. You’ll need to go to an LPN school in Las Vegas. Once you’ve graduated, the next step is passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

Prior to making any enrollment commitments or payments, we encourage you to confirm with the Nevada State Board of Nursing (NSBN) that the Las Vegas LPN program you plan to attend is on their approved nursing programs list.

LPN Salary in Las Vegas

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the national average salary for LPNs is $55,860 per year or $26.86 per hour. Nevada LPNs—on average—earn more: $63,910 per year or $30.73 per hour, and Las Vegas LPNs are solidly on the state average mark at $63,450 per year or $30.50 per hour. So, how do you bump your wages above that state average? Experience, work setting, and location all impact your earning potential. While experience is something you can’t rush, work setting and location are both variables that are within your control. You don’t have to quit a job and move away.

Benefits of Working Per Diem

When you pick up per diem shifts, you pick up the benefits that come alongside them. There are several, but the truth is they all trace back to two key points: flexibility and higher pay rates. You don’t have to quit your job to pick up per diem shifts. The flexibility allows you to pick per diem shifts to fit within your already set schedule. This means picking up shifts that won’t also conflict with your other life responsibilities.

The higher pay rates come down to the fact that hospitals and healthcare facilities are motivated to find LPNs to fill their shift gaps and ensure they have safe nurse-to-patient ratios. Sometimes, per diem shifts pop up at the last minute, others more in advance, but either way, the choice is always yours whether to pick them up or not.

Decide Your Priorities

Flexibility and high-paying hourly rates are big benefits and depend on your choices and priorities. Take time to decide your priorities, but remember that they can change. Is facility type important to you? For example, prioritizing hospital jobs for LPNs may mean you adjust your distance filters to spread beyond Las Vegas proper. Alternatively, maybe you have a major expense pop-up, like a trip or something less fun, like needing a new refrigerator. In either of those cases, you may prioritize the highest-paying shifts. Nursa pays out for completed shifts twice weekly, so the money you earn will be in your bank account where you need it quickly. It also makes sense to check out per diem shifts in nearby cities and towns. Check out LPN per diem shifts posted in the following locations:
