Flexibility and career growth are top priorities for many healthcare professionals.
Leah Wambui, a CNA in Spokane Valley, WA, sat down with Nursa to share how the app has helped her achieve both—while also shaping her path toward future nursing goals.
Leah's nursing journey and progression
Leah Wambui Nyaga, originally from Kenya, now lives in Spokane Valley, Washington. Two years ago, she began her healthcare journey as a CNA in an assisted living facility in Georgia. After relocating to Spokane Valley, a friend introduced her to the Nursa app, and she quickly embraced the opportunity to pick up shifts through the platform.
“A friend told me about Nursa when I moved to Spokane Valley, and I decided to give it a try. It’s been one of the best decisions for my career.”
She shared that she enjoys both the flexibility and the competitive pay Nursa offers while also appreciating the continuous learning that comes with working in different care settings.
“Every shift is a new learning experience—different people, different facilities, and new skills to pick up.”
Inspired by stories from her home country of people migrating to the U.S. and finding purpose in healthcare, Leah feels passionate about helping others and hopes to advance her career further.
She aspires to become either a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) in the future, seeing Nursa as both a means to build a flexible schedule and a stepping stone toward achieving those bigger goals.
“I’ve been a CNA for two years now, and my next step is to become either an LPN or RN. Nursa is helping me stay motivated and giving me the flexibility I need while I work toward that goal.”
Leah also emphasized her preference for Nursa over other platforms for its higher pay and the freedom to choose when to work. She also shared that Nursa has truly changed her life, giving her access to a variety of facility settings and people while offering valuable learning experiences.
“Nursa has truly changed my life. It’s not just about the pay—it’s about the freedom, the learning, and the people I get to meet.”
Work-life balance with Nursa
Leah emphasized that one of the main benefits of using Nursa is its flexibility.
“With Nursa, I can plan my shifts at the end of the month. That flexibility gives me control over my schedule and helps me balance work with my personal life.”
This control over her availability has allowed her to keep a healthier work-life balance, ensuring that she now has time for her family, personal goals, and continued growth in healthcare while still meeting her financial needs.
“I like working evening shifts from 2 to 10, or sometimes a double. I avoid nights—that’s just not for me.”
