Demands for LPNs and the Nursing Shortage in Iowa

With an aging population and growing healthcare needs, Iowa needs more nurses. According to the Iowa Center for Nursing Workforce, the state needs more nurses to meet the growing demand. This is mainly due to the current shortage of nursing educators, the aging nursing workforce, and the increasing number of retirees.

As a result, LPNs are in high demand and play a crucial role in providing direct patient care. These skilled professionals are an essential part of the healthcare team, providing assistance with daily activities, monitoring patient health, and administering medications. This demand for LPNs in Iowa is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

Understanding the Concept of Per Diem Work

Per diem or PRN jobs refer to positions where employees work on an as-needed basis without a fixed schedule or set number of hours. In healthcare, PRN jobs are not full-time or part-time positions but rather contracted shifts. Per diem work can be found in various industries, including healthcare, where additional staff is needed to fill in for vacations, sick leaves, or busy periods.

LPNs working on a per diem basis have the flexibility to create their schedules based on their availability. Depending on their needs, they can choose which available shifts they can work, making it a desirable option for those looking for work-life balance.

Insights into the Daily Lives and Routines of LPNs in Spencer

Now, let's dive into the exciting world of an LPN working in Spencer. A typical day for an LPN in this city may include working in a hospital, long-term care facility, or home health setting. They may start their day by reviewing patient reports, administering medications, and assisting with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding. They may also be responsible for monitoring patients' vital signs and reporting any changes to the registered nurse or physician.

Spencer LPNs collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, including registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, doctors, and therapists, to provide their patients the best possible care. They may also attend staff meetings, complete patient documentation, and participate in continuing education to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Reasons Per Diem Shifts are Gaining Popularity Among LPNs

One of the main reasons why per diem shifts are becoming increasingly popular among LPNs is the flexibility they offer. As mentioned earlier, LPNs have control over their schedules, allowing them to balance other responsibilities, such as family care or pursuing further education.

Moreover, per diem shifts offer a higher hourly rate than traditional full-time or part-time positions, making them an attractive financial option for LPNs. They can earn more while working fewer hours, allowing them to focus on other interests or spend more time with their loved ones.
