The FIU nursing experience is designed to mirror the complexity of Miami’s multicultural environment. The Traditional BSN is a specialized admissions program that requires a separate application via NursingCAS; it typically looks for a 3.7 average GPA among accepted students. For those who already hold a degree in another field, the Accelerated Option (AO-BSN) provides a fast-track, three-semester immersion. A unique "Global Health" track also exists for Foreign Educated Physicians, allowing doctors from other countries to transition into high-level nursing roles in the U.S. At the graduate level, FIU is a national leader in Nurse Anesthesia (DNP) and Psychiatric-Mental Health, preparing advanced practice nurses to lead in high-acuity settings.

The crown jewel of the college is the Diane Ramy Faulconer STAR Center (Simulation Teaching and Research Center). Spanning 20,000 square feet, this "mini-hospital" includes a 15-bed critical care unit, operating rooms, and primary care clinics. It features high-fidelity simulators like "Victoria" (an advanced birthing manikin) and "Pediatric HAL," the world’s first robotic child capable of expressing real emotions through facial movements and speech. Students also utilize the Jorge and Darlene Perez Clinical Skills Lab for mastering foundational tasks like suturing and IV insertion. Clinical rotations occur at South Florida's most prestigious institutions, including Baptist Health South Florida, Jackson Memorial Hospital (a world-renowned Level 1 Trauma Center), and Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Compared to other public universities in Florida, FIU is distinguished by its urban-community focus. Students often engage in the NeighborhoodHELP program, an interprofessional initiative where nursing, med, and social work students visit local households to provide coordinated care. Admission for Fall 2026 requires a 3.25 minimum cumulative GPA and the ATI TEAS (Edition VII) with a minimum 70% total score. Because FIU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), the program places a heavy emphasis on cultural competence and bilingual patient communication, making its graduates some of the most sought-after in the highly diverse Miami metro area.
