About Hartwick College

Hartwick College offers a rigorous, future-focused nursing education through its School of Nursing. Unlike many programs that delay nursing courses until the sophomore or junior year, Hartwick students begin their professional sequence in the first semester. Key pathways include the traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), an accelerated 18-month ABSN for second-degree holders, and a unique Three-Year Degree option for highly motivated students looking to reduce tuition costs. The BSN curriculum totals 120 credits, blending nursing science with biological and behavioral sciences. Students master core competencies in systems thinking, clinical leadership, and the translation of evidence into practice, preparing them for the complexities of modern healthcare.

The program is renowned for its immersive clinical requirements, providing over 800 supervised clinical hours—well above the state average. Students begin with 40 hours of hands-on work in their first year and progress to a Senior Independent Practicum, where they complete 150 hours under a nurse preceptor in a chosen specialty. On-campus, the Clark Simulation Lab serves as a "hospital wing," featuring high-fidelity manikins, a community care room (kitchen/bedroom/bathroom) for home-health training, and a telemedicine suite. A significant highlight is the Rural Health and Transcultural Nursing courses, where students gain firsthand experience with the unique healthcare challenges of rural New York or participate in international service-learning trips. This intensive preparation has led to exceptional outcomes, including a 100% NCLEX-RN pass rate for the Class of 2023 and 2024.
