The University of Kansas Health System operates its Entry-to-Practice Nurse Residency Program from its Kansas City, Kansas campus. The program is designed to guide newly licensed nurses through the transition from advanced beginner to competent, confident bedside clinician within a fast-paced academic medical center.
The residency was among the first nationally recognized programs to adopt the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Curriculum, and it emphasizes critical thinking, clinical leadership, evidence-based nursing practice, and patient safety throughout the year. Residents build decision-making skills at the bedside while working alongside experienced staff in a large, high-acuity health system.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Beyond the residency year, the health system offers continued career support through onsite continuing education, professional certifications, and leadership advancement opportunities, giving new nurses a long-term path for growth within the organization.
