About Wisconsin Lutheran College

The WLC School of Nursing provides a seamless four-year pathway into the profession through its Direct Admission model. Unlike many larger universities where students must re-apply for a clinical "upper division" after two years, qualified incoming freshmen at WLC are admitted directly into the nursing major, ensuring they can graduate on time. The curriculum is built on a strong science foundation and a liberal arts core, requiring 120 credits. A unique feature of the program is its global health focus, which includes a population health clinical immersion option in Zambia, allowing students to experience healthcare delivery in a developing nation. For those staying local, the program emphasizes care for vulnerable populations within the Milwaukee urban core.

Practical training takes place in the Ruehlow Nursing Complex, a state-of-the-art simulation and experiential learning center. The facility features four simulated hospital rooms—modeled after intensive care units—equipped with high-fidelity patient simulators ("Susie" and "Patty Anne") that can talk, breathe, and react to medication in real-time. Students begin using these labs as early as their sophomore year to master skills like IV management and catheter insertion before progressing to complex "code" scenarios. Clinical rotations are a highlight of the WLC experience, leveraging its proximity to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center. Students rotate through elite facilities including Froedtert Hospital (a Level 1 Trauma Center), Children’s Wisconsin, and various mental health and community clinics.

Compared to other Milwaukee programs, WLC stands out for its intimate, relational environment and its "servant leader" philosophy. This approach clearly yields results: the program celebrated a 100% NCLEX-RN pass rate in 2024 and 2025, significantly outpacing state and national averages. Furthermore, the college recently received a 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (2025), ensuring long-term institutional stability. Graduates are highly recruited, with 100% of recent classes securing RN positions within four months of graduation at major systems like Aurora Health Care and Ascension.
