About UW Health

UW Health operates its Nurse Residency Program from its Madison, Wisconsin campus. The 12-month program follows the Vizient/American Association of Colleges of Nursing model, a national curriculum recognized as an exemplary program by the Magnet Commission, and is open to new graduate nurses within 12 months of completing an accredited nursing program.

Residents are placed in either inpatient or ambulatory and clinic-based settings, where they work alongside a mentor to experience their new role in a real-world care environment. Eligible candidates hold an associate, bachelor's, or master's degree in nursing, with a BSN preferred, and move through a structured series of learning and work experiences over the residency year.

The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and it is one of about 40 CCNE-accredited nurse residency programs in the country. That national accreditation, paired with UW Health's size as an academic medical system, gives new nurses a well-supported first year across a range of practice settings.
