NursaTM Donates Blood

On June 6th, NursaTM held an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Salt Lake City, Utah headquarters office. On that day, 28 units of blood were donated, which is enough to help 84 patients! Not only were we able to give back by donating blood, we also hired two certified nursing assistants (CNAs) to help out for the day using our own healthcare staffing app. Here is a picture of, the CEO of NursaTM, Curtis Anderson, donating blood.

Staff members were inspired and one of the nursing assistants was brought to tears when she shared how NursaTM had positively impacted her life as a nursing assistant.

What Is World Blood Donor Day?

Blood is life. In an emergency or serious illness, it may be necessary to have a blood transfusion at hand. Blood donors are among the most important people in today's world, where one unit of blood can help a patient recover from a life-threatening condition.

Since 2005, when the WHO first celebrated World Blood Donor Day, it has been held every June 14.

Why is World Blood Donor Day Celebrated?

Among the most important reasons are:

  • To raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion; because blood is life, and it needs to reach patients as safely and cleanly as possible.
  • To highlight the fundamental contribution that voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors make to national health systems. Precisely, the fact that it is voluntary makes it more accessible to all people and ensures that there is no discrimination of any kind against this vital service.
  • To support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations, and other non-governmental organizations to strengthen and expand their voluntary blood donor programs by reinforcing national and local campaigns. It is at blood drives that many people learn about the myths and truths of blood donation and awareness of its importance is raised.

Each year, the theme of World Blood Donor day is different, in order to recognize individuals and their unique efforts to donate blood selflessly. To honor them, they are briefly mentioned here:

  • 2012: Every blood donor is a hero. It was shown how any ordinary citizen can become a hero through blood donation.
  • 2013: Give the gift of life: donate blood. Highlighted by stories of people who had been saved through blood donation, moving many people to be part of this movement.
  • 2014: Safe blood for saving mothers. Governments with high maternal mortality rates were asked to take concrete steps to ensure that they always have access to donated blood to avoid preventable deaths of women.
  • 2015: Thank you for saving my life. By thanking all volunteer donors and looking for ways to show appreciation to them by making donations safer and more effective around the world.
  • 2016: Blood connects us all. Every person who has received a donation has a piece of love that connects them to their fellow man.
  • 2017: What can you do? Give blood. Give now. Give often. Natural disasters, global pandemics, and wars have left a lot of people in despair, but by donating blood a change for the better can be made. It is especially in times of great need, such as with this global pandemic, that donating blood is vitally important.
  • 2018: Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life. Every few seconds, someone, somewhere, needs blood.
  • 2019: Safe blood for all. Health is a human right; everyone in the world should have access to safe blood transfusions, when and where they need them.
  • 2020: Safe blood saves lives. Regular blood donations are needed around the world to ensure that individuals and communities have access to safe, quality blood and blood products.
  • 2021: Give blood and keep the world beating. Last year the goal was to encourage the youth to donate blood, to create bonds of cohesion between human beings, and to improve this world through blood donation.
  • 2022: Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives. This year, many of the objectives of past years have been brought back to life, bringing them together to achieve the most important principle: that donating blood is an act of solidarity.

Of course, there will be other activities to promote this year's campaign, such as appreciation ceremonies for people who donate, posts on social networks to promote events and help raise awareness about this day, etc. That's why Nursa™, for example, held a blood donation drive event on June 6 to deliver blood. Nursa is a very useful app, therefore, it was possible to hire Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in Salt Lake City, and even the employees were motivated to contribute to the campaign by donating blood.

Does it Hurt to Donate Blood?

Some people worry a lot about the pain of the blood donation process. It is important to know that the pain of inserting a needle is similar to a hard pinch and that there may be some uncomfortable sensations when donating blood. After the process, some dizziness and pain may be felt, but with the necessary care and guidance that should be given at the blood donation site, there is no danger to donors. Questions and tests are always asked beforehand and forms are filled out for the donation because the health of the donors is prioritized.

If you have more doubts, you can read the exact steps to donate blood or ask all health personnel who will certainly be happy to answer the doubts of a potential donor. Thank you, donors of the world! You are real-life superheroes!
