What Do Uniontown, Pennsylvania LPNs Do When They Work PRN?

LPNs play a critical role in the healthcare industry, providing patient care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. In Uniontown, LPNs work on a per diem or PRN (as needed) basis in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health settings, and schools. If you are a PRN LPN living in Pennsylvania, you can also find jobs in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

When working PRN, LPNs typically have a more flexible schedule and have the freedom to pick up shifts according to their availability. Some LPNs may choose to work PRN exclusively, while others supplement their full-time jobs with PRN shifts. This type of work arrangement allows LPNs to have a better work-life balance and the opportunity to explore different healthcare settings. In Uniontown, licensed practical nurses often work alongside CNAs (certified nursing assistants) and RNs (registered nurses).

The traditional 9-to-5 work schedule may not fit everyone's lifestyle and needs. PRN work provides an alternative way of working for LPNs, offering them more control over their schedules and the opportunity to work in various healthcare settings. This type of work arrangement also allows for a better work-life balance, as well as the potential to increase income.

On your first PRN LPN shift in Uniontown, you can expect to provide direct patient care, such as administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with activities of daily living. Your responsibilities may vary depending on the healthcare setting and the needs of the patients. PRN shifts can range from a few hours to a full day or night shift, so make sure to confirm the length of the shift when picking up a job.

As with any new job, you will receive orientation and training before starting your first PRN shift. Familiarizing yourself with the facility's policies and procedures and asking any questions is essential. Working PRN also allows you to gain experience in different settings and enhance your skills as an LPN.

Why Are Per Diem Shifts Popular Among LPNs?

Per diem shifts are gaining popularity among LPNs because of the flexibility they offer in terms of scheduling and the opportunity to work in different healthcare settings. LPNs can choose their shifts based on their availability, the availability of jobs in the area, and their preferred healthcare setting. This also allows LPNs to explore different areas of nursing and gain experience in various specialties.

Additionally, per diem work offers higher pay rates compared to full-time positions and can be an excellent way for LPNs to increase their income. LPNs who work PRN also have the potential to develop professional relationships with different facilities, potentially leading to full-time job opportunities in the future.
