Children's Hospital Colorado operates its New Graduate Nurse Residency Program at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The program is designed for registered nurses who have graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past year and are beginning their careers in pediatric care. Delivered on campus through a cohort model, it combines classroom learning, simulation, and precepted clinical practice to help new nurses build the skills needed for pediatric specialties.
Coursework covers clinical reasoning, leadership and professional development, evidence-based practice, quality and safety, and resiliency and wellness. Residents also complete simulation-based training in code response and equipment use, and work alongside experienced preceptors on their assigned unit. Each resident develops an evidence-based project intended to improve outcomes on their unit.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, a distinction that sets it apart from many hospital-based residency programs. Its focus on pediatric-specific training and mentorship makes it a strong option for new nurses seeking to specialize in children's health care early in their careers.
