About Wheaton College

Wheaton College’s nursing program is built on the belief that healthcare is a form of social justice. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a four-year, 128-credit program that integrates the "Wheaton Compass" curriculum with rigorous clinical training. Unlike programs that have a separate application after two years, Wheaton offers competitive direct entry for incoming freshmen. Students begin their journey with "Introduction to Professional Nursing" in their first semester and dive into anatomy, physiology, and microbiology early on. To graduate, students complete a specialized 120-hour Senior Capstone Practicum, allowing them to gain mastery in a specific clinical area of interest.

The program's facilities are centered in a state-of-the-art Nursing Suite, which earned provisional accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. This suite includes five specialized labs: ICU, Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery, Medical-Surgical, and a Community Room (designed to simulate home-health scenarios). Students practice with high-fidelity manikins that exhibit real physiological responses before moving to clinical rotations. Wheaton maintains strong partnerships with regional leaders such as Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Boston Medical Center, and South Shore Hospital. Reflecting the high quality of this new initiative, the program earned its initial CCNE accreditation in 2025, ensuring that its graduates are fully prepared for NCLEX-RN licensure and leadership roles.

Compared to other Massachusetts programs, Wheaton is unique for its liberal arts concentrations. Students don't just learn "how" to be a nurse; they can choose a specific pathway like Health Justice (focusing on racial and gender disparities) or Medical Humanities (focusing on the empathetic, lived experience of patients). This interdisciplinary approach, combined with an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio, makes it an ideal choice for students seeking a small-college feel with big-city clinical opportunities.
