What is a Registered Nurse?

An RN, or Registered Nurse, is a healthcare professional who has completed the necessary education and training to obtain a nursing license and be registered with a governing body. RNs provide direct patient care in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and private homes.

RNs are responsible for many patient care tasks, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, assisting with diagnostic tests and procedures, providing emotional support to patients and their families, and educating patients on their health conditions and treatments.

In addition to their clinical responsibilities, RNs may also serve as managers, educators, or researchers in healthcare organizations. RNs play a crucial role in the healthcare system and are essential team members.

To become an RN, one must typically complete a formal nurse training program, which can include a diploma, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing. Upon graduation, individuals must pass a national licensing exam in order to obtain their nursing license and begin practicing as an RN.

What is the Average Salary of an RN in Olympia?

How PRN RN Jobs Fit into the New Gig Economy

With the landscape of the medical field being as fluid and ever-changing in today's society, the medical profession has had to adjust to the staffing needs of the patients. There has been a mass exodus of highly qualified medical staff and workers, and filling that gap has created a gig economy that hospitals, nursing homes, and medical facilities have to adjust to. The answer to filling the shifts, beds, and profits for hospitals is to turn to PRN shift assignments for RNs to work. This is beneficial for both the hospitals and the RNs. The hospitals get to fill per diem shifts, while RNs get to pick where they want to work, when, how long, and for how much. For more information on how RNs are fitting into the gig economy in the state of Washington, read here.
