Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia occupies a large campus in University City, adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania and its medical center, with a network of specialty care and primary care locations across the Philadelphia region, southern New Jersey, and Delaware. Founded in 1855 as the first pediatric hospital in the country, it operates as a nonprofit academic medical center and serves as the pediatric teaching hospital for Penn's Perelman School of Medicine. It draws patients nationally and internationally for conditions few centers treat.

Care spans the full range of pediatric subspecialties, including cardiology and cardiac surgery, oncology, neurology and neurosurgery, fetal medicine and surgery, orthopedics, gastroenterology, pulmonary medicine, and behavioral health, along with a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit and a pediatric trauma program. Research runs alongside clinical care through one of the largest pediatric research institutes in the country. Nurses practice in pediatric intensive care, cardiac intensive care, neonatal intensive care, hematology and oncology, emergency, perioperative, and inpatient medical and surgical units, working with acuity and complexity that reflect a quaternary referral center. The hospital is a major clinical training site for nursing students throughout the region.
