Uncover High-Paying RN Jobs in Tucson, Arizona, with Nursa

Are you a registered nurse (RN) in Tucson wishing and hoping to earn more money this year? Take that wishing and hoping and flip it to joining and downloading Nursa, and you’ll uncover the world of high-paying per diem registered nursing jobs throughout the city. Read along as we discuss the healthcare industry and how it reflects upon the resident population and drives demand for nurses, how much RNs in Tucson earn, how to make even more with Nursa by picking up per diem jobs, and why nurses love living and working in this sunny Arizona city.

Healthcare Industry in Tucson

With a population of around 550,000, Tucson is considered a mid-sized city. It boasts a lower cost of living than its larger metropolitan sister city, Phoenix, dry heat in the summer, and mild winters, so it’s no surprise that it’s a popular retirement destination. With a growing senior cohort that already makes up almost 15 percent of the population, on top of its healthy-sized young adult and family residents, the healthcare industry in Tucson is growing to meet the various needs of its diverse community.

With dozens of assisted living residences, skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities, several major hospitals, physician practices, outpatient clinics, and home healthcare agencies, the work setting for RNs in Tucson is as varied as it is plentiful.

Demand for RNs in Tucson

Understandably, in a diverse community with varied healthcare needs, both complex and routine, RNs are in high demand in Tucson, especially ones with specialties such as oncology, medical-surgical, and pediatrics. The Arizona State Board of Nursing projects that the demand for specialized nurses in Arizona will increase by 23 percent through 2025. As Tucson’s healthcare industry continues to grow and expand alongside its residents, so does the demand for skilled registered nurses.

RN Responsibilities and Collaboration

Although RN responsibilities vary depending on the work setting, the following are a few constants:

  • RNs take patients’ histories and conduct assessments to determine their current conditions to form plans of care.
  • RNs maintain thorough documentation of observations, plans, and actions.
  • RNs supervise licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants.
  • RNs administer medications as prescribed.
  • RNs consult with physicians, providing valuable insights into patient conditions and responses to treatments.
  • RNs collaborate with physicians and other allied healthcare clinicians in creating and implementing care plans for each patient.

What’s the Average Salary for an RN in Tucson?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), in 2022, just under 8,000 RNs worked in the Tucson metropolitan area. They earned a mean annual wage of $83,590 and an hourly mean wage of $40.19.

The BLS publishes occupational wage data annually, which is publicly available on its website.

Why RNs Love Living and Working in Tucson

As if the breathtaking desert landscapes at sunset and sunrise alone aren’t enough, Tucson has so much its residents enjoy. Since the city is surrounded by five different mountain ranges (the Santa Catalina, Tortolita, Tucson, Santa Rita, and Rincon Mountains), rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking are popular hobbies, and the clean mountain air defies its city status.

Perhaps some of the clean air can also be attributed to the city being bike-friendly, with trails and lanes throughout the city’s infrastructure making it easy for people to use their bikes to get to work, run errands, or exercise.

Tucson is also a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, a title earned in 2015. With a deliciously thriving food scene, every meal of the day can be a celebration of flavors. With a hopping nightlife and solid public schools, retirees aren’t the only ones enjoying the city’s amenities.

How Nursa Works
