What Basic Requirements Are Needed for RN, LPN, and CNA Jobs

At Nursa, we pride ourselves on our fleet of competent, adaptable, and knowledgeable clinicians who are ready to hit the ground running in new environments and shoulder the burden with their coworkers. There are three certifications that are required of registered nurses and licensed practical or licensed vocational nurses to work PRN nursing jobs through Nursa:

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS)
  2. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  3. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

All three certifications are available through the American Heart Association (AHA) and are, to put it clearly, "must-haves". As you complete the courses or locate your certifications and completion cards, upload them to your professional digital portfolio in color.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course provides training to identify life-threatening emergencies for your patients. You will learn the following and more:

  • How to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on people of all ages infant to adult.
  • How to identify and respond appropriately to each of the links of the AHA Chain of Survival.
  • Understand the importance of early initiation of an AED (automated external defibrillator).
  • Learn to perform the various roles of each member of a resuscitation team.
  • How to respond when adults or infants are choking of an obstruction.

How to Find a BLS Course

Your certification is valid for two years, and depending on the course you choose could give you continuing education credits.

  • To use a bag-mask device
  • To use an AED
  • To identify and properly respond to respiratory arrest
  • To identify and act in cases of cardiac arrest
  • Appropriate pharmacology
  • To lead a resuscitation team

How to Find an ACLS Course

As with the BLS course, you may be able to earn continuing education credits for completing the ACLS course. This certification is valid for two years.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

True to its name this course will focus on life support skills necessary for clinicians who work directly with or may be presented with situations in which they work with seriously ill or injured children and infants.

This course will focus on:

  • CPR and AED for children and CPR for infants
  • Early identification for cardiopulmonary arrest and CPR administration
  • Discernment between respiratory distress and respiratory failure and appropriate interventions
  • Identify arrhythmias and assessment of whether the patient is stable or unstable

How to Find a PALS Course

Certification is valid for two years, and like the BLS and ACLS training, you may earn continuing education credits.
