Sweat. Blood. Tears. Not only do certified nursing assistants put so much into the delicate and precious work they perform on the job, assisting patients in performing their activities of daily living (ADLs), but they are also there for the emotional support of those they so selflessly serve. Nursing assistants care for patients in their most vulnerable conditions, often when they can no longer care for themselves and often at the end stages of their life. That's right. CNAs are often the ones at a patient's bedside, holding their hand as they take their last breath, in many cases without any family members present. Furthermore, CNAs are often subjected to workplace injury, and The National Nursing Assistant Survey found more than half of all nursing assistants have been injured at least once on the job. It's a noble profession, and CNAs must adhere to licensing requirements to maintain their licenses and continue to provide care to patients who need it most.

Land High-Paying PRN CNA Jobs in Meridian, Idaho

This article will discuss certified nursing assistants (CNAs) duties in the work setting, how to become a CNA, and much more. Most importantly, this article will talk about what it's like working in Meridian, Idaho, and PRN nursing jobs in Idaho. It will also cover working per diem jobs and a CNA's average salary in Meridian, Idaho.

What Is A CNA?

CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. These healthcare professionals assist registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in various healthcare facilities. CNAs don't have a medical degree but hold a certificate issued by the State where they work. State certification for CNAs puts them in a higher position than orderly or medical assistants, which means they earn a higher salary than these other allied healthcare professionals.

The high demand for CNAs nationwide makes it easy to find a job. CNAs often advance in their career by becoming RNs or LPNs starting as CNAs. It is an excellent way to give you experience in the medical field as you work your way up to a higher position. With the baby boomer generation getting older, it is estimating the demand for CNAs will get even higher.

What Does A CNA Do?

A CNA provides the most personal care to the patients, providing physical and emotional support to the patient and their families. A good portion of CNA's work involves caring for the elderly and disabled. CNAs can find local travel and PRN jobs at many facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, hospice facilities, and at private homes.

CNA Duties In The Work Setting:

  • Moving and readjusting immobile patients
  • Responding to patients' needs
  • Assisting patients in the bathroom, bathing, walking, getting dressed, grooming, etc.
  • Measure the input and output of their stools.
  • Logging vital signs.
  • Receiving treatment plans from doctors and nurses.

CNAs are also to be able to use medical equipment such as:

  • Database software
  • Thermometers
  • Heating and cooling packs
  • Shower chairs
  • Catheters
  • Defibrillators

The highest demand for a CNA is working in hospice, long-term care, assisted living, and home health facilities. These healthcare workers tend to have the most hands-on care with the patients. They also meet customer service. A CNA gives emotional support to patients and families.

How To Become A CNA

To become a CNA, you must pass a training program approved by the State. You can get certified through places that offer programs, such as high schools, community colleges, vocational schools, or certain hospitals. There are also programs you can take online. Even though you may get certified faster, It tends to lack the education you would get from a classroom setting.

Every State has a mandated amount of hours you must complete for your certification. You must complete an exam. After that, you are placed on a state registry.
